Lesson: Wedges Module
Physical vs. Dynamic Wedges
A physical wedge is made of dense material (usually steel). It is an insert that fits directly into the head of the linear accelerator that alters the dose line’s shape to a set angle at a calibrated depth. The wedge needs to be at least 15 cm from the patient so that scattered radiation from the wedge does not degrade the skin-sparing effect of the megavoltage beams.
